Staying safe in the hot weather

This week, we have been finding creative ways to keep cool and escape the heat. Our summer crafting continued with sparkly, jewelled flowers in a range of hues. Meanwhile, things got competitive at the games tables with fast-paced rounds of dominoes and bingo keeping us all entertained.

Our team members were grateful to receive another basket of fruit courtesy of our friends at Support Social Care Heroes, who work so hard to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of those providing social care. The basket was supplied by Bingham and Browne who are based in The Moor Market and the quality was once again exceptional. This time our lovely cook Denise whipped up some delicious smoothies which the team enjoyed with a quick breather in a shady part of the garden.

Next week…

With a Met Office amber weather warning of extreme heat currently in force for the city and red warnings nearby, keeping our residents and team members cool and hydrated is a top priority for the coming days. We will be continuing with our indoor activities, keeping windows and doors closed, and have strategically positioned electric fans throughout the homes in order to ensure a continuous flow of cool air.

Residents and staff will be encouraged to rehydrate regularly with cold drinks, ice lollies, smoothies and fresh fruit. These refreshments will, of course, be readily available to family members too. We will also be moving towards a cold menu for some meals until we are past the hottest days in order to minimise additional heat sources within the home.

If you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the team.
